Exclusive new club for Tyne Tunnels explorers – no driving license required!

TT2, the Tyne Tunnels Operator, has launched an exciting new club for younger car passengers this summer.

Recognising the boredom associated with car journeys for younger passengers, TT2 has developed an exclusive membership club, Tyne Tunnels Explorers, designed to make road trips more stimulating for back seat passengers.

Rachel Turnbull, TT2’s CEO, said “As a mother of two, I know very well how challenging it can be travelling with children. I had always thought jokes about the phrase ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ were exaggerated, until I found myself trapped in a car for hours hearing that same question over and again!

“From talking to our customers, we know that lots of people choose the A19 to reach the beautiful North East coast during the summer holidays, which means children stuck in the back of cars twiddling their thumbs, or bickering, until they get there. That’s despite the quicker journey times thanks to the second Tyne Tunnel.

“To make car journeys more enjoyable for parents, grandparents, and children alike we have developed a special club, just for our younger visitors. We hope the Tyne Tunnels Explorers Club will stop little ones driving their parents to distraction so that everyone can focus on enjoying great days out.”

A free activity pack can be downloaded from TT2’s website for children to enjoy during their car journeys. Aimed predominantly at 7 to 11 year olds, there are also games for younger passengers to enjoy such as ‘A19 Bingo’ and  ‘Traffic Counter’.

Membership of the Tyne Tunnels Explorer club is available to all children submitting their interior designs for the northbound Tyne Tunnel. Limited edition goodies are available to the first 100 children to join the club. Further details are available in the activity pack.

Mrs Turnbull adds “We’re looking forward to developing the Tyne Tunnels Explorers club with more exciting ideas to come, including exclusive competitions for club members and the chance to be the TT2 mascot at an exciting event later this year.”
