TT2 Employees Volunteer at Monkton Community Woodland

In 2024, the Tyne Tunnel community fund donated £16,220 to the ‘Counting on Nature’ project run by Groundworks in support of Monkton Community Woodland. The project aimed at increasing community engagement and wildlife habitats. The donation also provided funding for materials, workshops, habitat creation, a new butterfly walking route, and even essentials like gloves, tools, and seeds!

This volunteering day was part of TT2’s partnership with Groundworks, an organisation which supports thousands of projects every year that make a real and lasting difference in the places that need it most.

Monkton Community Woodland, which was formerly a coke works, the woodland provides a number of vital links between communities and a wonderful network of green spaces and wildlife, as well as offering opportunities for volunteering and health activities.

One of our hard-working employees who attended the day commented:

“The volunteering with Monkton Community Woodland was both fulfilling and a good physical work out.

“We assisted in preparing the ground for dispersion of seeds for plants which are beneficial for butterflies. The aim was to set up areas of plant growth that would provide a stable supply of food for butterflies to encourage their return.”

We believe in supporting local organisations that make a positive impact on our community, and we are committed to giving back in any way we can. A huge thank you to Groundworks and Monkton Community Woodland for welcoming us and for the incredible work you do!
