The Northbound Tyne Tunnel is set to be closed from 9PM to 5AM on Saturday 4th July 2026 for scheduled maintenance works.

During this time, the Southbound tunnel will operate in a bi-directional layout to accommodate travel both Northbound and Southbound.

Here’s what to expect:

South Side of the River

Southbound – Continue as normal in one lane.
Northbound – Follow cones and diversion signage to cross over to the Southbound carriageway.

North Side of the River

Southbound – Continue as normal in one lane.
Northbound – You will travel through the tunnel in the left lane, follow cones and diversion signage to cross back over to the Northbound carriageway.
