Vacancy for Cyber Security Engineer

About this career opportunity:

The role is varied and interesting, and as part of the Support Services Team you will play a crucial role in protecting our organisation’s systems, networks, and data. You will need to be proactive, driven, and a great communicator.  You will have a strong technical background, with a passion for cybersecurity, and the ability to design, implement, and maintain security to our organisational requirements.

You will work closely with the Support Services Manager and act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Main role responsibilities (Please see Job Description for full details)

  • Ensure IT escalated incidents and requests are dealt with in a timely manner and acted upon within defined SLA’s.
  • Take a lead role during high pressure incidents, balancing technical resolutions with clear stakeholder communication.
  • Monitor security alerts and investigate potential incidents.
  • Develop and refine threat detection rules and use cases, staying up to date on industry trends, threat intelligence and security technologies.
  • Secure cloud environments (Azure).
  • Implement and maintain identity and access management (IAM) solutions.
  • Application security testing.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, etc.).
  • Participate in TT2’s IT Technical on-call rota currently 1:3 weeks (£3508.00 per annum) as determined by the company from time to time.

You will be passionate about delivering a great service to all our key stakeholders. You will be self-motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload to meet deadlines whilst ensuring accuracy, with high levels of integrity.

Essential requirements:

  • Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field further education qualification as a minimum.
  • Understanding of Compliance Frameworks and Cyber Security Certifications (i.e. NCSC & Cyber Security Essentials).
  • Understanding of data classification, encryption, and secure storage/access principles.
  • Experience working in an ITIL aligned environment and be familiar with ITIL principles
  • Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK Framework or common attack and response methods
  • Experience aligning infrastructure builds with cyber security standards such as NCSC guidance, CIS benchmarks, or Microsoft Security Baselines.
  • Strong Technical Knowledge of Microsoft-Based Environments across both on-prem and cloud environments.
  • MS Office 365 including Exchange online
  • and Intune.
  • MS Azure support certification / experience.
  • Azure Virtual infrastructure environnements certification / experience.
  • MS SQL experience.
  • Knowledge/ experience of data and network security.
  • Practical understanding of patch management best practices across hybrid environment.
  • Proven experience managing cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Experience in automation of processes utilising scripting and infrastructure code.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of staff and management and demonstrate high levels of leadership through influencing skills.
  • Strong networking skills and an ability to achieve outcomes. A team player who contributes beyond the immediate functional responsibilities

Location and working hours:

This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week, based in our Wallsend office.

The office hours are Monday to Thursday 08.30 – 16.30 including 30-minute unpaid lunch break and Friday 08.30 – 16.00 including 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

The role requires participation in TT2’s IT Technical on-call roster between 1:2 or 1:3 as determined by the company from time to time.

To attract the best candidates, we will offer a salary of £45,195 – £47,579 per annum, along with membership of the Local Government Defined Contribution Pension Scheme.

The role includes an IT Technical on-call rota obligation as determined by the company from time to time, 1:3 weeks which entitles you to remuneration of £3508.00 per annum, or 1:2 weeks entitles you to remuneration of £4438.92 per annum.

We also offer 26 days Annual leave, plus 8 days bank holidays, with additional days available with length of service.
