We have donated £20,000 towards Tyne Rivers Trust’s learning programme, which is dedicated to ensuring that young people understand the importance of their local river and the challenges that it faces.
The funding is part of our commitment to supporting groups in the North East that work with people, animals and the environment.
Simone Saville, head of learning and engagement at Tyne Rivers Trust, said, “Our relationship with TT2 stretches back to the inception of Tyne Rivers Trust, and we are extremely grateful for this latest funding support for our programme.
“The aim of our learning programme is to bring the river closer to young people. We want them to learn through hands-on, creative and meaningful experiences the key challenges facing the Tyne today, including climate change, river health and industrial heritage. This investment from TT2 helps us to continue this important work.”
CEO at TT2, Adrian Wallace, said: “With our Community Fund, we are committed to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference to both the environment and our local communities. This project is a great example of that, and we’re proud to partner with Tyne Rivers Trust to help deliver these inspiring sessions to children across our region.”
As part of the Learning Programme, Tyne Rivers Trust and TT2 will visit a number of schools to talk to their students about the importance of the River Tyne to the region, its industrial heritage, the challenges it faces, and the solutions that are being put into place for the protection and regeneration of the river and the wildlife that rely on it.
Later in the year, TT2 employees will also join Tyne Rivers Trust for a day of sustainability-focused volunteering, taking part in practical, environmental work such as tree planting or stabilising riverbanks.
Mrs Saville added, “As a charity, we rely on funding to continue our work. However, it’s important to us that the relationships we have with corporate funders is mutually beneficial. In return for their funding, we want to help them to achieve their environmental goals, support employee engagement and highlight their commitment to our region.”
