Ready for an exciting journey beneath the River Tyne? The Tyne Tunnels’ Heritage Tours are back for 2026! This fascinating tour enables you to learn more about the heritage of this iconic landmark and the important role it plays in our region.

The tour includes a presentation on the Tyne Tunnels from past through to the current day, before a visit to the control room, which is monitored 24/7. We will then head on a journey through the tunnel (transport provided) to the south extract building, where guests will get to see the holding tank and pumps that store the water required in the event of a fire in the tunnels.

You will also have the opportunity to experience the emergency escape tunnel by walking a short distance into the tunnel, learning more about our emergency procedures, all before we return to our offices to complete the tour.
