Northbound Tunnel Weekend ClosuresThe Northbound Tyne Tunnel is set to be closed for a series of weekends for scheduled maintenance until Summer 2025 which will ensure the longevity of the tunnels for generations to come. To cause minimum disruption to users during its busiest times, both tunnels will remain open, as usual, from Monday to Friday.
Learn moreA toll is due each time you travel through. If you travel north and south, a toll is due for two passages. A passage covers one direction of travel only.

You have until midnight the day after you use the Tyne Tunnel(s) to pay your toll. Failure to pay your toll may result in the issue of an Unpaid Toll Charge Notice.
You can pay online or via our app, as well as our automated telephone payment line on 0191 574 0030 or at a PayPoint retailer.
We can NOT accept payment via cash or cheque. Cash payments can be made at a PayPoint retailer.
Please be aware we do not accept American Express as a card payment.
